The Pennsylvania Lottery: A Vital Part of Older Pennsylvanians' Lives.
The Pennsylvania State Lottery is the only state lottery still committed to solely benefiting older residents. As Pennsylvania is the state with the second largest number of seniors in the nation, the Pennsylvania Lottery is dedicated to growing support and continuing to be the major contributor of funds to the important programs that will advance and expand assistance and services to our growing number of valued seniors.
Based on current sales projections, it is expected that the PA Lottery will provide nearly $800 million of support by the close of fiscal year 2003-04. It is because of these sales that the PA Lottery can provide assistance to older Pennsylvanians which truly benefit them every day.
Did you know that:
- The Pennsylvania Lottery proceeds enable more than 28,000 prescriptions to be filled for seniors across the Commonwealth, every day.
- More than 32,000 older residents receive hot and nutritious meals, thanks to Lottery proceeds, every day.
- Older Pennsylvanians receive more than 128,000 transit rides as a result of Lottery proceeds, every day.
Yet despite the great work listed above, there is still much more to be done. There are approximately 2.4 million persons over the age of 60 in Pennsylvania, with one in five seniors living in or near poverty, and this is projected to increase to more than three million by the year 2020.
Seeking innovative solutions that will generate more proceeds to address the issues faced by older Pennsylvanians is our focus.
